Dr. Henry Gadaga

Dr. Henry GadagaBiography - in his own words

I hold a PhD in Food Science from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. Areas of research interest include; traditional fermented foods, dairy technology, pre- and pro-biotics in food, food safety and street vended food, and food consumption patterns. I am currently employed as a lecturer in the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Health Sciences, National University of Lesotho. I am the current Deputy Dean of the Faculty.  I was previously a lecturer in Food Science and Technology at the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Family Sciences, University of Zimbabwe. I served as Head of Department there for two years from 2003 to 2005. I have examined several BSc Honours, MSc and PhD students for the University of Zimbabwe, National University of Science and Technology Zimbabwe, Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the University of the Free State, South Africa. I have published 16 articles in international peer reviewed journals, and 16 in other publications. I also have extensive experience in training Environmental Health practitioners on food safety and food inspection and I have written 2 training manuals on food inspection. I am a reviewer of the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND), and the Journal of Food Biotechnology. I am married with 2 children.

Mr. John Bukusuba

Mr. John Bukusuba

Mr. John Bukusuba is a Nutritionist with a Master of Science in Applied Human Nutrition and Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Makerere University in Uganda. He has incredible research and work experience in food processing, emergency nutrition and food security programming in Africa and Asia. He has previously worked as a consultant for international NGOs and USAID funded projects in Uganda. He has been involved in activities that empower vulnerable groups to respond to food insecurity, HIV & AIDS and promote prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT). He has previously worked with IDPs, refugees and vulnerable communities on management of malnutrition, maternal and child health (MCH), and HIV programs. He has published a number of research papers in peer-reviewed journals, e.g. British Journal of Nutrition, African Journal of Food, Agriculture and Nutritional Development and International Journal of Food Science and Technology, on issues of HIV & AIDS, nutrition and food security. He is currently working on a cohort study of Micronutrient supplementation with sprinkles in a protracted refugee setting of Bangladesh. John helps in peer-reviews of manuscripts for African Journal of Food, Agriculture and Nutritional Development; Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition; AIDS and Behaviour.
