Article: Commentary - Why Millets?
[1] Nagassi W. Jacob Victor [Benin] is a PhD student in food security and nutrition at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin. He has worked on the effectiveness of nutrition-sensitive multi-sectoral interventions on the seasonality of food consumption and nutritional adequacy of children under 5 years and women of childbearing age. He also assists governmental organizations and NGOs in the design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects in nutrition and food security. He is convinced that research should not be distanced from development actors for more impact on nutrition and food security. Through his different actions, Mr. Nagassi intends to contribute to significantly reduce the high rate of malnutrition and food insecurity in Benin and in Africa.

[2] Grace Akumu [Uganda] is a Food scientist/Nutrition specialist with experience in designing and conducting food related research (food safety, food security, food systems, nutrition, extension), economic research, and project management for non-government organizations. Grace has participated in various research projects in Africa as a Researcher. She is a Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Food Science and Technology from Makerere University, Uganda. Grace is an author and co-author of several scholarly peer reviewed articles focusing primarily on food safety (microbiology and mycotoxins), extension, nutrition, and food systems..

[3] Very Rev. Francis Aboagye-Nuamah [Ghana] is a Senior Lecturer at the Methodist University Ghana. He is the Head, Department of Nursing & Applied Sciences and Director of the Wenchi Campus. Francis is a Plant Pathologist, Postharvest Expert/Consultant and Postharvest Master Trainer. His research interests include postharvest management, crop protection, food safety/security and sustainable food production. Francis was a Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering of the Iowa State University of Science & Technology, Ames, USA in 2016–2017. He served as Consultant/Facilitator on a number of Skills Development Fund Ghana sponsored projects on capacity building for various farmer groups.

[4] Deon Ludwich Graupner [South Africa] is the director and founder of CropsProfit, a company specializing in crop price risk management in South Africa. He graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1991 with a BSc degree in Agricultural Economics and an honours degree in Business Administration. He has more than 20 years of experience as a commercial grain farmer. He specializes in integrating practical crop price risk management with information technology. As an independent researcher he focuses on providing solutions for grain farmers and other participants in the crop production supply chain by refining the timing of transactions, profitability, and income stability.

[5] Dr. Effiong John B. [Nigeria] is an administrator, researcher, public analyst, academic and community mobilizer. His commitment to duty coupled with his invaluable contribution towards the development of the practical agricultural programmes in his department and the institution - University of Calabar remains indelible legacies for posterity. Dr. Effiong has a Ph.D degree in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology. His research interests are in the areas of Rural Development, Agricultural Extension, Livelihoods, Well-Being and Gender Studies. Dr. Effiong is a member of many professional associations including; Agricultural Society of Nigeria and Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria.

[6] Dr. Sipho Sibanda [South Africa] is an agricultural engineering expert employed by the Institute of Agricultural Engineering in the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa. He is the Research Team Manager in charge of all research and development in Agricultural Mechanisation, Agro-processing and Renewable Energy for the benefit of farmers. Dr. Sibanda has been spear heading the development and dissemination of best practice guidelines for agricultural mechanisation systems, from land preparation, crop establishment, crop protection, harvesting and post harvesting. His focus has been in ensuring that technologies are developed, tested and promoted among farmers.

[7] Dr. Malak M. Angor [Jordan] is an Associate Professor and immediate past Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Processing and vice dean at Huson University College/ Al-Balqa Applied University. She is massive in the areas of Nutrition and Food processing having gathered experience over years of lecturing and conducting research. Her current research interest is multidisciplinary and includes food processing and preservation, food analysis, human nutrition and diet therapy. Her focus is on the development of food processing methods that are appropriate for the preservation and enhancement of food nutrients.

[8] Gnagne Adou Akpa Guy Blanchard [Côte d’Ivoire] obtained a Master's degree in Biotechnology, Biosafety and Bioresources at the University Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Abidjan, in the Department of Biosciences. He is in the process of defending his PhD Thesis in the specialty of Food Technology and Process Optimization. He is interested in modeling studies and food processing for the achievement of food safety. He has published articles in various international peer-reviewed journals. He also teaches high school biology.

[9] Idah Akoth Omondi [Kenya] is First Class graduate from Department of Agricultural Education and Extension form Egerton University, Kenya. She is currently pursuing Masters in Agricultural Extension at Egerton University. She is a recipient of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Agribusiness Management (CESAAM) scholarship. She works as a Teacher employed by Teachers Service Commission in Kenya. She has worked as an intern in International Potato Centre (CIP) hosted in International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Nairobi. She aspire to advance her education in one of the prestigious university in the world to become a researcher who contribute to food security.

[10] Eman Aly Fadlalla [USA & Egypt] is an assistant professor at Ain Shams University in Egypt. She has a U.S. equivalent Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Nutrition and has spent 20 years teaching in a variety of international classroom settings. She is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (C.N.S.) in the USA since 2014. She worked as a professor (2004–2013) at Taif University in Saudi Arabia. She is a member of the American Society of Nutrition and the American College of Nutrition. She has participated in many international conferences. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals..

[11] Ifeoluwa Oyebimpe Oyediran [Nigeria] is an Agricultural Economist. She obtained her Bachelors and Master’s degrees from the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is part of a team at a private firm that works to control gaseous emission in Nigeria. Her research focuses on using different methodologies to assess food security status of households. Future research interest is on sustainable development with particular focus on food security, climate change and resource economics.

[12] Professor Dr. Ir. Ketut Suamba, MP [Indonesia] teaches socioeconomic agriculture at the University of Udayana's Faculty of Agriculture. The University of Brawijaya Malang was where the last education was completed. Suamba is highly interested in learning more about the province of Bali's Subak and how it relates to business and tourism. Suamba is also involved in organizational activities. She has held positions at Udayana University including chair of the Department of Agricultural Social Economics and first deputy dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. Suamba currently serves as the director of Udayana University's Subak Research Center..

[13] Dr Olaide R. Aderibigbe [Nigeria] is new generation professional and well-grounded in her field. She is involved in research, teaching and consultancy in nutrition and food processing. She currently works as an Assistant Director of Research at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is passionate about improving the nutritional status, health, and general well-being of individuals and populations through quality and evidence-based research and practice.

[14] Caleb Kimutai Sagam [Kenya] is a registered and licensed clinical nutritionist. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition and dietetics and a master of science degree in public health nutrition from Masinde Muliro university of science and technology. He has experience in clinical nutrition and has also worked in clinical, research and community settings. He has passion for research with great interests in maternal and child health, gut health, diabetes and hypertension research and evidence synthesis. He has taught as a course instructor and practical’s instructor at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and currently working at Kenya Medical Research Institute.

[15] Michael Oboh [South Africa] is a PhD candidate in Human Nutrition at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. He holds a BSc degree from Ambrose Alli University, a BSc (Hons) and an MSc degree from the University of Zululand, South Africa. His research interest, which spans the disciplines of biochemistry, nutritional and pharmaceutical sciences, and ethnopharmacology, mainly focuses on assessing the therapeutic, nutritional, and cytotoxic properties of medicinal plants and natural products. He is also interested in developing nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems to enhance bioactive compounds' solubility, bioavailability, and therapeutic efficacy, using animal models and in vitro studies.

[16] Mthokozisi Zuma (PhD, Crop Sciences)[South Africa] is a research fellow under the Research Chair in Food Environments, Nutrition and Health of the Human Nutrition Department at Stellenbosch University and a manager in advisory services in the Smallholder Agricultural Development Unit at Agricultural Research Council, South Africa. His research focuses on food security, agronomy, public health, human nutrition, and consumer sciences. As an emerging researcher he has contributed to various interdisciplinary research at different levels (community, national and international). Dr Zuma research is aimed at alleviating triple burden of malnutrition and achieving sustainable food systems.
