Dr Nomasonto Xazela

It is with great sorrow and regret we inform the body of scholars of sad passing away of Dr Nomasonto Xazela. Sonto (as we affectionately called her) was attached with the University of Fort Hare as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow working on a project gauging nutrition issues within rural communities of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Sonto had been working on this project for the past three years with generous funding and support from the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences under the Professor Sam Moyo Postdoctoral Fellowship in Land and Agrarian Reform. Prof Willie Chinyamurindi acted at a Supervisor to Sonto and had also managed to get funding through the National Research Foundation (NRF) (HSD170620242869). The NRF funding also assisted during the data collection process. Sonto, until her death, had managed to publish a total of three publications in the following journals: a) Health SA Gesondheid; b) Journal of Consumer Sciences and c) African Journal of Food and Nutrition. May her soul rest in peace and her work continue to inspire all.
