Original methodological research, field trials of innovative research methods, critiques of data sources and data availability for planning and evaluation studies, novel applications of methodologies from other disciplines, the use of emerging technologies for research purposes, and critical discussions of the challenges of conducting research in rural Africa are sought to provide a forum for applied and academic research scientists.  Methodological aspects of data collection, sampling, data security, privacy and human subjects protections, data analysis, data sources, and research designs for program or policy evaluation are particularly welcomed. The goal of this issue is to stimulate broad improvements in the quality of research conducted in rural Africa and to increase the rigor of all aspects of research methodology that is applied to rural African populations.
