Congratulations
to you for doing a very good job. I have started spreading
news about the journal on my way back home. I am not
very good in English but I am trying to get people
who can help with me. I will give more news later.
Meeting you as a very active African woman leader
reinforces my believe in working hard to contribute
efficiently to give a better image to our motherland
THE BIG AFRICA. I wish that we have millions of "Rut
K. Oniang". This means that we have to work hard
to generate more young leaders through a mentoring
program. So, I want you to be my mentor, and the one
of many other girls.

Congratulations for the timely release of the 3rd
issue of AJFNS. More importantly, I congratulate you
for having attracted more partners, especially the
donors. One of the factors inhibiting research work
in Africa is funding, and with these inroads AJFNS
has realized, I am very optimistic, fundamental results
will be realized."Any long journey has to have
a first stride". I wish you the very best

I add my voice and say Congratulations, on the launch
of the AJFNS. Once again, you have done us all proud
with another first. I thank you too for being an inspiration
to many, particularly among us womenfolk, who desperately
need to see and be inspired by role models like yourself.
God bless you and the very best with the Journal.

I write to congratulate you on the AJFNS. I would
recommend greater emphasis on program implementation
and evaluation. Too many programs are implemented
and their outcomes rarely shared so that others can
benefit. The problems that plague developing countries
will not be overcome with models, but only with shared
experiences of what worked, what didn't work and why.
Keep moving right along.

Congratulations again for an incredible success story
in producing a prestigious journal at a low cost.
The journal issues are exceptionally good. The authors
are known scientists at the international level. It
is well balanced and very useful to the readership.
In my opinion more support should be given you and
your staff in continuing the efforts you have initiated.
The scientific articles and journalistic professionalism
and the promptness publications required are commendable.
I
wish to congratulate dedicated people like you, who
have succeeded in accomplishing such fantastic results.
Bravo.
Cheers and buona fortuna

Congratulations
on embarking on the publication of AJFNS, something
that is really needed. I wish you all the best in
the future and will remind my graduate students of
this as an option for publication.
In the meantime please sign me up as a member.
Now
I have finished the March 2002 issue and continue
to be impressed .I'm amazed at how quickly you were
able to edit and distribute it, so that even the recent
SCN meeting is referred to in articles!
It
is also great to read about the past and planned nutrition
meetings etc in Africa and elsewhere.

LETTER
TO THE EDITOR
As
a Kenyan, little have I known how this area of study
is of great importance, especially in this era in
which many Africans are malnourished due to poverty
and lack of information on food security and nutrition.
The ideas and views shared in the AJFNS have, for
one, encouraged a lot. I have been refueled and transported
to a destination of open-mindedness and ideologies,
which have always remained remote and in the background
of my and many people's minds, especially the ones
like me who serve in the everbusy Police Force of
Kenya and even other sectors.
In
my opinion, it is an understatement for the Editor's
note that AJFNS is just but a "crawling baby",
I second Joseph Mutuku's comment from the students'
corner, with his astounding confidence on the quality
and keen scrutiny the journal was subjected to. The
views shared in your Vol.2 No 1 authentically become
a great medicine to an already ailing African community
at large. The crawling baby journal turns out to be
a baby with a difference as soon as you turn over
the pages! As I write, my attention is immediately
drawn to Dr. Hans Schoeneberger's and Thoralf Schulze's
contributions published in the March 2002 issue, which
expounded on sustainability of resources and the most
likely negative effects of Germany's New Agrarian
policy on developing countries, measures of which,
if taken, would ensure a non-discriminatory setting
at the global level.
Many
other contributors on policies and research in this
journal inject hope for developments around the world
and particularly my continent, Africa. AJFNS is really
an exponent collection of professional ideas and views
on food security and nutrition from across and beyond
the boundaries of Africa. An admirable journal, a
quality journal full of ideologies which are operational
with practical methods quite applicable in our African
continent as we strive to eradicate poverty.
I
believe this journal will soon fly to the top of the
list of African journals that not only broaden and
open up avenues, but amongst those that will make
things happen on the field of nutrition, food security
and poverty reduction in the continent. Fellow readers,
let us not just go through these flavored constructive
ideas and views shared in the AJFNS but instead consistently
put into practice the ideologies; and lift the drooping
eye lids of the African people, majority of whom languish
in poverty.
As an officer involved in crime prevention, I see
light at the end of the tunnel and a strong connection
of fighting crime in Africa as we fight poverty in
unity, and uplift the poor and poverty stricken lot.
I hardly see criminals in a well fed African people:
instead I see a rejuvenation of our failing and falling
agricultural sector, a conversion of African countries
en masse into a tourist destination, as security improves.
In essence, a stable economy in Africa at large as
emphasis is laid on this crucial field of nutrition
and food security.
We
all need to embrace the field of Food Science and
Nutrition regardless of where we are and what we do.
