Foreword [Volume 15 No. 1 (2015)]

I am happy to publish issue 68. At the same time, we at AJFAND wish you a most prosperous and joyous year 2015.
We thank you most immensely for your support in 2014 and hope that we can count on it again in 2015.

This start of the year seems to have a lot of challenges all over. It is clear that as wars and civil strife continue, little time is left to think about crucial issues as: how the world will be fed in 2050. We hope to have a lively debate on this topic in 2015. What research is relevant at this time?

Whom can we depend on to fund such research? What technologies need to be pursued? Where are we with biotechnology in 2015?

What do we have to say about the Bill and Melinda Gates letter of 2015? The Gates are fairly positive about the world in the next 15 years regarding disease, child survival and hunger especially for sub-Sahara Africa. Please feel free to send us a commentary or let us know whether you would like to appear as a Guest Editor on any of these or other relevant topic. In our last issue, we announced an upcoming special issue on Aflatoxins. We gave January 31 2015 as the deadline for expression of interest for those who wished to contribute a full paper. The response was extremely encouraging. The Guest Editors for the Special Issue will go ahead and contact those who plan to prepare a full paper due on March 31, 2015.

Issue 68 has 11 extremely interesting and thoroughly reviewed papers. Also there is a great COMMENTARY on the perceptions of the North about published works that come out of the South. That one by Prof Richard Douglass of the USA is a "must-read" and should encourage us in Africa to step up our scholarly writing. We have a lot to do, and also plenty to share.

Rather than get discouraged, let us get on with it. To get an idea of how papers that are submitted to us fair, please see........The Fate of submissions to AJFAND in 2011, 2012, 2013.

I wish you good reading.
