Foreword [Volume 13 No. 2 (2013)]
Issue 57 of AJFAND is ready for release.
This issue is a TRIBUTE to departed scientists whom we have honoured.
Two papers were each completed by friends of the departed colleague, portraying a true spirit of solidarity with their departed fellow scientist and co-author. Two other tributes are for special people I knew: Dr Jacky Ganry and Dr Nevin Scrimshaw for whom we have created a page for messages of condolence that were sent to me after I shared the news of his death.
A Gathering in Tribute to the Life of Nevin Scrimshaw, 1918-2013

I know there are many African scientists in the areas of food science and nutrition who have been touched in one way or the other by the work of the late Nevin Scrimshaw. You can send your tribute through the email above. If you can afford to attend in person, so much the better and please do convey our special acknowledgements. Issue 57 carries 16 peer reviewed papers, carefully reviewed by our able and ever dedicated reviewers. We value our reviewers and are very grateful for both their commitment to science and to the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development. We lack the words to fully express our appreciation for the support they continue to extend to us. Because of their sacrifice, we are able to, together, share, quality science with the rest of the world.
Let me through this forward encourage you to visit the World Food Prize Foundation website: www.worldfoodprize.org where you will find calls to apply or submit nominations for a number of awards.
These are awards for young scientists and for mature scientists.
Please do not wait because the deadline is fast approaching.
As you may be aware, March 25, 2014 will mark 100 years (a century) since Dr Norman Borlaug was born. The World Food Prize was started by him and celebrations to mark this special day, March 25, 2014 have already started.
Please get involved and be part of the celebrations, and if you are mature scientists, please involve your students.
Enjoy this issue.
