LATE MR. KAYODE OLUGBENGA AJOMALE

B.Sc (Hons.) Ib., M.Sc (Ife)

PROFILE

Ajomole 3Mr. Olukayode Olugbenga, a citizen of Nigeria was born on the 1st of December 1965, into the family of Pa Samuel Victor Ayodele Ajomale and Mrs. Taiwo Adebimpe Ajomale (Nee Meyungbe).

Kayode was raised in the christian faith as a child at The Cathedral of St. James, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, Nigeria. He  attended Alafia Primary School, King’s Barracks, Iyaganku from where he proceeded to Awe High School Awe, Oyo for his secondary education. He obtained the West African School Certificate in 1982. From 1982 to 1984, he attended the Ibadan Grammar School, and obtained his A level. He persevered on the education trail at Ogun State Polytechnic Abeokuta until he gained admission to the University of Ibadan in 1985 to study Biochemistry graduating with a B.Sc in 1989. He did the National Youth Service at The National Institute for Horticulture Research (NIHORT) Idi Ishin in 1990.
           
He endured the period of Nigeria economic malaise without real employment by assisting his brother in Sam Victor and doing some catering business.
           
He then proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife where he obtained Master of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1998. He joined the Institute of Agricultural Research & Training, (IAR&T) Obafemi Awolowo University, Moor Plantation, Ibadan,  Nigeria (in year 2000) as Junior Research Fellow. He was posted to the Cereal Improvement Programme where he jointly worked with Professor Olusola Omueti on maize quality. “He was a dedicated scientist with potential to advance to greater heights in Academia” stated Professor Omueti. He was already promoted to the level of Research Fellow II based on some scientific articles published in peer – reviewed journals.
           
While on his job at IAR&T, he had enrolled at the University of Ibadan for his doctorate degree programme in Biochemistry. Most of his data were ready for publication and was progressing to complete his research work for the Ph.D. programme when he suddenly departed into the great beyond.
           
Mr. Kayode got married to Elizabeth in 2003 and the marriage is blessed with two children, Korede (boy and Mayowa (girl).

He was until his transition to glory an active member of the RCCG Jesus Embassy and was ordained as a deacon in August 2004. He was later posted along with his wife to the RCCG Jesus Academy (Teen Church) where he served as a minister until his passage. His humility, calmness and faith in the Lord and in academia are noteworthy.

Some of his of completed research on maize biochemical and nutritional qualities will be published on his behalf to demonstrate his worthy contribution to science.
           
May his gentle soul rest in the Lord’s blossom.  Adieu to an academic colleague.
