Job Summary
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Research
Fellow (RF) for a two year, fixed-term, renewable appointment for
its Organization & Management Programme in its International Service
for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) Division. The Organization
and Management Programme aims to provide innovative approaches, methods
and tools for organizational and management reforms in Agricultural
Research for Development (AR4D) Systems in order to bring science
to the service of the poor (men and women) in developing countries.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in the provision
of research based service to AR4D systems in developing countries
(particular attention to Africa) in the Organization & Management
Programme of the ISNAR Division. This position is based in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia.
Essential Duties:
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
• Contribute to the global search for best practices in organization
and management of AR4D systems and participate in documenting and
disseminating best practices;
• Participate in project design and implementation of research
activities in the field of organization and management in selected
countries and/or regions;
• Identify service providers in organization and management
of AR4D systems and facilitate public-private partnership of service
delivery to specific agricultural research organizations; and
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation process of the research
based service to the AR4D systems and their component parts and
coordinate impact assessment and documentation of lessons learned.
Required Qualifications:
• PhD degree, in one of the following areas: Business Administration;
Public Administration; Development Studies; Economics; Agricultural
Economics.
• At least 10 years experience in management, preferably in
National Agricultural Research Systems; Sub-Regional/Regional Agricultural
Research Organizations; International Agricultural Research Institutes;
Advanced Agricultural Research Institutes or in the private sector
serving agricultural research.
• Research Experience in the field of research management
(including strategic planning, program development, project formulation,
monitoring and evaluation, impact assessment, organizing AR4D systems,
financing agricultural research etc).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point
and statistical software such as STATA, SPSS and others for qualitative
analysis.
• Proficiency in oral and written English language.
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well in a multi-cultural environment and
with a public, private, NGOs and other civil society agents.
• Ability to travel internationally as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of oral and written French and/or Spanish
