It is with great sadness that we hear that our friend Rolf Larsson has passed away in a tragic accident. We remember Rolf as a knowledgeable person, enthusiastic, very warm and dedicated to his work to try to find better solutions for the poor people in the developing world. I had the great privilege to cooperate with Rolf in the research project Afrint, and I will always remember our interesting discussions that were so inspiring to me, as well as his joy for music and dance. On behalf of all my collegues at the department for Natural Resources and the Environment in Sida, I would like to pass our condolences and our thoughts to Rolf's wife and children.

This is very shocking in deed!

I talked to him on the eve of his departure to Arusha about Afrint 2! He was very cheerful and with high expectation about the next round of Afrint, the proposal of which was part of his mission to shape. What a great loss of a committed and humble researcher/scholar.

May I take this opportunity to convey to his family our heartfelt condolences and deep sense of sorrow for the loss of their loved one! !

May the Lord Rest His Soul in Peace.

I am very saddened to learn of Rolf's sudden death. We have lost a man of high intellect, a man with the urge to advance in modern life. I remember Rolf (together with Prof Hans) guiding me on how I should collect data for the Malawian micro-study when we were in Lund.

On behalf my colleagues, James Milner, Dr. Lucy Binauli and my Director (Dr. Wycliffe Chilowa), I extend our heartfelt condolences to the wife and the children and to the whole AFRINT team.

May GOD bring Rolf's soul to his kingdom.

Dear All:

This is indeed shocking news! He was such a committed scholar and a warm friend to all. I had an to opportunity to visit with his warm and welcoming family in summer last year and my thoughts are with them during this grieving period. May the almighty rest Rolf's soul in peace and give his family the strength to cope with the tragic loss.

Dear Goran and collegues,

This is very sad ,indeed. I feel really upset by the sudden death of this fine collegue. We all did work with Rolf and found him a remarkable scholar and gentleman. He was painstaking and hardworking. I recall him talking animatedly about his field trips in Tanzania for his Ph.D. thesis and for the Afrint study. My goodness how he loved Tanzania!

Well, Rolf, you might not have been David Livingstone, the Lander brothers or Mungo Park. But certainly your academic pursuits in the plains of Tanzania did make you an academic explorer of that part of the African continent and we shall remember you as a friend who brought us joy and improved knowledge of ourselves.

We grief and commiserate with the family and our collegues at Lund University. Our thoughts are with you and, please accept our condolences and heartfelt symparthy. May God grant you all the fortitude to bear the loss.

Very sad.

This is indeed a great loss to all of us who have had the opportunity to know and work with Rolf. His simplicity and ever readiness to assist was remarkable. I remember him offering to come down to Nigeria to work with us resolve some difficulties we had relating to the analysis of the Afrint I dataset. Even though he could not come, he worked with us interactively until the problem was solved. My wife and I are very saddened about this news and are praying for the repose of his gentle soul. We send our heart felt sympathies to the family he has left behind. May he rest in perfect peace.

Dear All,

I have only just learnt about the tragic loss of Rolf Larson in a tragic accident in Tanzania. It is extremely hard to believe. God in his own time and in his own manner calls on us to return to Him. To me it is a personal loss. I learnt to appreciate his intelligence, his gentle ways, his friendliness and above all his humility. In short, he became a role model for me. Such a man with so many qualities can never disappear from my mind. I shall always revere his memory.

My heartfelt condolences to his wife and children. May the God of Abraham offer him everlasting peace.

Wayo Seini.

May God rest his soul in Eternal Peace.
