FOREWORD
It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that I announce the release of the sixth issue of our journal, African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND), previously African Journal of Food and Nutritional Sciences (AJFNS). Yes, we are still alive and are growing fast.
As some of our readers and patrons may have noticed, or heard, we have decided to stay entirely online. We truly thank God for this facility, because without it, we would have gone down by now. We are completely unable, for the moment to raise resources to sustain printing and distribution.
This journal is being sustained by your patience and good will.
I would like to say to you all that we shall always be grateful for this support.
If you have any tips on how else we can improve, please do not hesitate to let us know. My appeal this time is to seek our readers' support in getting the student section going. For some reason, our receipt of student manuscripts has to be solicited as they are not coming in spontaneously. This is unfortunate as one of our main objectives is to use this journal for capacity building of our young and budding academics, and researchers. The student section is for future professors and senior researchers, and indeed, for future Editors -in- Chief and reviewers.
I met our President of International Union of Nutritional Sciences Prof. Dr. Mark Wahlqvist, himself founder Editor-in-Chief of Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition and a good friend, whom I reminded that it was him who inspired me to go ahead and start a journal. This was after I had repeatedly lamented to him the need to start a medium to address African issues, and how so helpless and inept I felt.
To the many friends, including Hans Schoeneberger of GTZ, Roy Fuchs of Monsanto and Eric Jéquier of Nestlé Foundation who continue to support us financially and indeed to all of you who support us even morally, I wish to say, thank you very much for your positive thoughtfulness.
Enjoy reading this issue.
Prof. Ruth K. Oniang'o
Editor-in- Chief, AJFAND
