Dr. Suzanne S. Harris is the
ILSI Acting Executive Director

and a strong supporter of AJFAND from beginning, both morally and financially, AJFAND reviewer.

On July 3, 2003,Dr. Gary Henderson, ILSI President, announced that Dr. Suzanne S. Harris would assume the responsibilities of Acting Executive Director of the International Life Sciences Institute. Dr. Harris has served as Executive Director of the ILSI Human Nutrition Institute since January 1989. She also worked closely with many of the ILSI branches, institutes, and centers and has represented ILSI in the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The executive director responsibilities include oversight of ILSI and the ILSI Research Foundation. Dr. Harris will direct the development of global programs, oversee issue coordination across the branches, and represent ILSI to other international organizations. She will also oversee the Research Foundation, including the Human Nutrition Institute and the Risk Science Institute.

Prior to joining ILSI, Dr. Harris served as the deputy assistant secretary for Food and Consumer Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1985 to 1989. Before that, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences and then assistant professor in the Department of Comparative Medicine and Department of International Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1976 until 1985. Dr. Harris holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
