Letters to the Editor

The Editor-in-Chief,
African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development
P.O.BOX 29086, Nairobi, Kenya.

Madam,

THERE IS STILL HOPE FOR AFRICAN YOUTH

I sincerely wish to express my gratitude for the good work you and your team are doing in nurturing AJFAND. The journal is a good resource material for African nutrition. What fascinates me most about the journal is the student section. The idea of “catch them young” is actually what has been lacking in African development that is why the continent has remained a developing continent till date. You have given hope to the African youth.

AJFAND has continued to expose young talented scientists, something that should be emulated by every other sector on the continent. Reading through the journal, I observed three interesting different levels of participants. The Editor in Chief and her board members , who are most experienced in nutritional affairs, organizing the second level are mostly lecturers and researchers that are already in the race of taking over the baton. And most importantly the students who will sustain the good work of the first two levels.

Certainly, the candle will never go out no matter the wind’s strength because by the time the students will get to the editorial board level, they must have gained more experience in the journal than the present editorial board. I am proud to be associated with this progress which I pledge to sustain.

Secondly, this is the avenue where young talented citizens showcase their talents early enough for proper development. This should be a pace setter for most countries of the continent, where lack of funds hinders the publication of good scientific work on nutritional science. I thank some donor organizations that have helped in the publication of AJFAND so far and urge them to continue to the level when AJFAND can be positioned to be publishing other interesting work from external sources .

I would equally enjoin the African leaders to make their own contribution in terms of funding because AJFAND is not only for nutritionists but for everyone. Maintaining good health is fundamentally from nutrition and that is the only time we can talk of meaningful development of the continent.
